“New year, new me.”
We’ve heard it countless times. Cliché it might be, but the statement does represent a meaningful message: it’s a new year, and it’s a great time to commit to a making a change.
Resolutions are expressions for what we want to change in our lives. There are common resolutions—exercise more, eat better, etc.—and then there are other, more personal resolutions. Whatever their theme, our resolutions are meant to better us. Some are pie-in-the-sky, and some are very attainable. What about a resolution to get more sleep? Sure, getting more sleep sounds easy, but think about it—how often do you neglect getting a proper night’s sleep?
Your body needs sleep to function properly and countless studies have shown the benefits of getting a good night’s sleep. Sleep boosts physical performance, assists with health and immunity, and is critical for our cognitive functions.
Research has found that one of the reasons our New Year’s resolutions fail is because of inadequate sleep. In a study consisting of 1,000 people, 66% of participants achieved their New Year’s resolutions with the help of adequate sleep, while only 44%, those with poor sleeping patterns, achieved their resolutions.
You don’t have to be a “new” person this year, but you can take the steps to better yourself. Despite how difficult your resolution may seem, sleep can be a great tool in helping you conquer it. If you have any questions on changing your sleeping patterns, we’d love to help you out.
We at Beautyrest Sleep Gallery hope you have a wonderful new year, with plenty of good, quality rest!
