Keeping your mattress clean is paramount in extending its lifespan. Because dead skin cells accumulate over time, it’s best to take every precaution. Vacuum your mattress occasionally to remove any dead skin cells and other organic materials.

Mattress protectors are also crucial to keeping a mattress dry and clean. Mattress protectors not only keep your mattress free of moisture, but also keep dirt and dead skin cells from becoming embedded. Some people tend to place their mattress directly on the floor without a box spring, which can damage it by causing mold to form beneath, leaving you with a big mess. On the other hand, if your mattress is on a support with slats that are far apart, it may develop ridges overtime. To avoid mold or ridges, mattresses should be placed on a solid box spring or base with slats about 3-4 inches apart.
