Holidays. Family. Events. Comfort food. Hustle and bustle. Good stress. Bad Stress. Lack of sleep… Does anyone else wrap presents super late on Christmas Eve?
Well, the Christmas season is officially here. There’s so much to do! Buying and wrapping presents, decorating the tree, attending and hosting events, sending out cards, listening to carols, watching traditional movies, making cookies, taking pictures with Santa, Christmas Eve candlelit church service... and the list goes on, leaving no extra time in the schedule for you. You love all of the things red, green, gold, and silver, but how do you take care of you at the end of these hustling and bustling days?
While it may be the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also a time when excitement and emotions run high while our energy and immune systems run low. As a result, our bodies suffer. What can you do to prevent the crash and burn of Christmas chaos? In this article, we give suggestions for your cozy Christmas comfort that will make your holiday more peaceful.
Lock yourself in your bedroom with a nice cup of hot coffee, tea, or cocoa and make yourself comfortable on your bed while you wrap presents. If you have little kids, teenagers, or a spouse, you’ll probably agree that a big part of the stress involving Christmas presents is finding places to hide them from nosy family members. This is a great solution to that. Wrapping presents doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Just do a little bit at a time. While it might seem energy-draining to immediately wrap presents after a long day of shopping, imagine how peaceful you will feel when you only have two to three last-minute presents to wrap and put under the tree on Christmas Eve. This will save you hours of last-minute wrapping.
Draw those Secret Santa names early. Put dates on the calendar for all your traditional outings with the family early in the season! While you’ve got your calendar open, go ahead and plan in some me time. While that can look different for every person, pencil in a time in the day when you can take a twenty-minute nap or plan to go to bed early. According to The Sleep Doctor, most adults lose around thirty-nine minutes and twenty-three seconds of sleep a night during the holidays! That might not seem like a lot but in the long run, it’s likely to lower your immune system, and no one wants that.
The holidays don’t magically change the people around you. Nor do they change you. Why should your expectations change? When we expect nothing or very little, we are often happy with the results. Release that high bar you’re holding for yourself and for others. Everything will work out exactly as it’s supposed to, and you will receive the gift of great Christmas memories you’ll dream about each night when you hit the mattress.
You love holiday comfort food. How much of that can you cook and freeze in advance? Thinking ahead can help take the stress off a big feast. Speaking of comfort, how comfortable is your mattress? What if instead of using food for comfort this year, you use your mattress? Okay, fine. If you need to eat your comfort food on your comfort mattress, we’ll allow it. But only because it’s Christmas.
Pick your favorite holiday movie and cuddle up under your warm comforter on your cozy bed and relax while watching the movie you’ve been dying to watch all Christmas season. It can help you get in the Christmas spirit, too!
Remember, you cannot do it all. Give yourself a five-to-ten-minute break, find your mattress, turn out the lights, sit down, and take deep breaths in and out. Do a meditation. When you finish, pick one thing you can do today and go do it.
Lists are your friends during the Christmas season. Specifically, notes on your phone. If your notes have a checkbox next to it, even better! We like the Google Keep app that allows you to check things off quickly. You’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment just checking a box one to-do point at a time. Before you know it, everything is done and you’re able to relax on your mattress and sleep well to energize you for the next busy day ahead.
Do less this holiday season. You do not have to do everything. You likely have a spouse, a significant other, children, or a friend who will jump to your aid if you only ask for help. Asking for help is hard. Trust me when I say that the people in your life likely watch you when you spin out of control and wish they could help. Direction and a few simple instructions go a long way. Delegate to your family and go take a nap.
Life is messy and there’s no place for perfectionism during the holidays. Even with the best-laid plans, something will go awry. Plan for it. In the meantime, what’s the one constant in your life you can utilize? Your bed! Your bed is your place of restoration. Your comfort. Your de-stressor. Your place to shut down the brain, restore, and recharge your energy.
A gift certificate is an awesome way to set someone on a new path of resting well. You have a mattress you love. It has changed your life by allowing you to sleep longer, better, and more comfortably. What better way to show someone love this holiday than with a gift certificate to your favorite mattress store, Beautyrest Sleep Gallery. A gift certificate will go a long way toward all the things you need to sleep well such as:
Destress this Christmas. Be Comfortable. Wake Up and Be Happy.
Enjoy this Christmas holiday with family and friends using your mattress as your ultimate solution to destressing. If flipping your mattress helps you flip your perspective, do it. If that doesn’t work and you’ve tried all the hacks but still can’t sleep, it might be time for a new mattress, base, or pillow. Your local sleep experts are happy to brainstorm the issue and get you back to the land of dreaming about dancing sugarplums. Destress, sleep well, and be happy this Christmas season.
